Starting a new project where I will be building rail and style, ( 5 piece doors) and was looking for a router bit set ( Ogee profile) that will give me a profile that is 3/4" wide. I will be cutting the rail and stiles 2 7/8 wide and I want to put an Ogee profile that is 3/4" wide. I have bits from Lee Valley and freud which produce a 1/2" wide profile but I want 3/4". Does anyone have an idea of where I can get these larger bits for a router as I don't want to invest in a shaper.
Hopefully this makes sense.
Thanks,
JC

Change the bearing to a smaller diameter. My CMT sets came with bearings to do just what you want to do.

Thanks Tom. Never thought of that. It must be too  many glasses of wine on a saturday night.

You may have to tweet the shims a little to get the bits matched with the new bearings.

Still doing research for 3/4" profile rail and stile bits. I tried changing the bearing size but it's really not what I'm looking for. Most rail and stile bits have a 3/8", 1/2" or 7/16" profiles. I need something that will give me a 3/4" profile. Does anyone have a name of a manufacture other than Lee Valley, Whiteside, CMT, Freud, FS Tool, Rockler that might have these bits. I know I can probably find a shaper bit but I don't want to invest in a shaper.
Thanks,
JC

You may have to have the router bit custom made to be able to do a 3/4" ogee profile.  I've never seen an ogee rail and stile set for a router table that will do 3/4"
Custom bits aren't cheap, but they are a lot cheaper than springing for cutters for a shaper.

Is this the type of thing you want Wealden Tool
It covers the thickness range you mentioned and are a company I go to first for router bits due to quality, price and customer service.
(no affiliation other than happy customer) If it is drop them an e-mail to see if they will help or get back to me to see if we can sort something out.

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the link but unfortunately the reveal length of the Ogee profile ( distance F ) is 9.5mm which equals 3/8 inches. I have these in my shop, along with 1/2 inch but I'm looking for one that does 3/4 inches ( 19mm).
Hopefully that makes sense.
Attached is an image of the distance F that I would like to be 3/4".
Thanks
JC

Do you know someone fairly close who has a shaper?
They might just have the profile you need and the cost of running the moldings would be less than buying a shaper + all the tooling for a one off job, actually, even if you had the knives made to suit for them it would probably work out cheaper....most woodworkers like to help others out, those that don't are not true craftsmen, and you might get to work together on other projects too.
Just a thought as it has worked for me in the past.

This search has been the most frustrating task in a very long time.
A friend of mine has these beautiful doors in his kitchen with a profile on his doors that is definitely larger than 3/8" or 7/16". I measured it and the reveal profile width very close to 3/4"" and the 1/4" slot for the panel is 1/2". I want to buy this bit.
The profile is an Ogee design but spans approx 3/4". There has to be a router bit somewhere as the door manufacture was able to buy it. I even did research on shaper bits but did not get any results. I think I looked at every router/shaper bit manufacture on the planet and no one has what I want.
I'm stuck and don't know what to do to emulate this large profile. I have been on the phone with CMT, Whiteside, Dimar, Freud, Lee Valley, FS-Tool and no one can help me. Any ideas?

If "F" = 3/4" what does "E" equal.  Would be a huge bit, maybe a shaper cutter head will offer more options.

It would be a large bit but not any bigger then a raised panel bit which are approx 3 - 3.5". I looked for a shaper cutter but can't seem to find one. The maximum size I found for F was 1/2". I did find a local company that will make custom bits  but I think it would be a little expensive. Thes earch continues.

Having watched "this old house" quite often, when they need to match a profile on trim or any other mill work Tom Silver will get custom cutters made and run it up on site. http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/video/0,,20811828,00.html

Custom router bits are probably very much more expensive than custom moulding or shaper knives.

Amna router bits  but dia of a 3/4" profile would want the biggest router. if they even make one.
There's a company somewhere in the midwest that has a great selection Belsaw tooling I think I have there catalog in the shop.I will look it up in the am.
