Rail splinter guard fix

[Svar]

Splinter guard typically starts to peel off from the ends. I wrap clear tape around the edges to secure it as shown.
Note: I used blue painters tape only to make it visible on the pictures. Clear packing tape works best. It adheres very well, lasts long time, does not interfere with anything, and secures the strip in all directions.

Thanks for the suggestion!  I think all of my rails require this treatment at this point.

I have been doing that since Festool switched guide strips. I usually use the red stucco tape. Seems to last longer.
Then again you should see the bottom of  my 10’ rail. It’s pretty much got a red racing stripe. I do have a replacement makita strip.

Excellent idea Svar... [thumbs up]  clear packaging tape it is. I replaced the strip on 2 of my rails this spring but I noticed both are now just starting to droop a bit.

I have always back cut the last 3/4" of the splitter guard. And back cut the very end. I never line anything up with the very end of the guide. And it keeps it from getting caught on things.

While not exactly what you are looking for it will  get you the same end result.  Click the "Notify" button towards the upper right of the topic. Even though you will only be notified when a new post is made that will also add it to your list of topic notifications. That list is in your profile. So the list will serve as a list of forum bookmarks that are links to the topic.
