Ratcheting wrench for 1010 router collet

I've gotten a bit spoiled with the ratcheting collet on the 1400 and 2200, so as I was just now changing the collet on my 1010, I got to wondering whether there is some sort of flat crescent wrench manufactured that has built-in ratcheting action so I can tighten or loosen the collet without having to reposition the wrench every quarter turn?

I think there's a few things sub par with the OF1010 and it needs to be brought up to date with better features. It's a nice light router and reasonable powerful but feature wise it's lacking OF1400/2200 DNA.

I would have to wait quite awhile to upgrade to a new version OF 1010 but I agree it needs an update.

Ed,

Search your preferred retailer or Ebay for "ratcheting open end wrench". Several companies make them. Most common I have seen is Gear Wrench. Prices are pretty reasonable. They are sold in auto parts stores as well.

I really don't know. I have thought of getting some every time I came across a situation that it would have been helpful. Looked at the a number of times. Just haven't gotten around to it.

Never tried these. Do they mar the nut?

I own a set of these. The term Ratcheting is really misleading for them. What they excel at is the ability to open up/pivot open, allowing you to get the wrench in the middle of a plumbing'line run, then close the wrench and start working the nut/fastener as needed.  They do not ratchet, just flip open and then back closed.

The Box End of the normal Gear Wrench is the ratcheting part of the tool, the open end is just a regular open end wrench. If they make a version like the UK 'Chicago' link of tool that someone posted, I haven't seen it.  The problem with the Box end is larger diameter bits that block using the box end of the wrench in the first place, so that would be a frustration. Bits smaller than the ID of the Box End wrench would work great.
For a router application, I would probably lean towards their Flex Wrench, which isn't a plain wrench with the ratcheting box end, but has a pivoting joint near the box end section of the wrench to allow you to angle away or towards something that you're trying to loosen/tighten. That angling bit might help clear sections of a router if you don't have the bit way up in the air to access the Collet Nut.

Here are some of the wrenches in question... [wink]

Edward is looking for a wrench that can engage the router collet nut from the side so it has to be open end. I don't keep up with mechanic's tools but the only wrench that might do this is  this Husky wrench from Home Depot.

Does that little silver bit retract enough to allow the wrench to rotate around a nut? Anyone have one of these and are they available in metric?

Doh!  Didn't even notice that they're only available in metric.
Don't recall the size of the wrench needed for small router...

Well, that's wrong too! SAE version here.

right, I knew what he wanted, that's why I was worried that the Gear Wrench suggestion might throw him off with its Ratcheting Box End. Those Husky Wrenches might be a speed wrench, which is a term someone came up with for specially cut Open End Wrenches that allow a faster usage than a normal Open End Wrench.
I think the Blue Point/Facom Line wrenches I showed, that opens up ;could also work , but the wrench could take its toll on the metal of the Collect Nut over time since the metal section grabbing the nut would be small and not like the larger flats of an Open End Wrench..... [scratch chin]
The Collect Nut is probably around 22mm, I don't have my 1010 router in front of me.

One last thought, although pricey, is an extended or regular length Crow Foot Wrench that has a 3/8" square drive hole in one end to allow a regular ratchet to work the Crow Foot Wrench.  I can't imagine this is the way the OP wants to go, but if they sell one large enough to fit the Collet Nut, it WOULD give you an Open End Wrench and the ability to ratchet at the same time.  This is a Standard Length one, which is the most common. The extended body versions are generally one-offs for a special vehicle task.

After reading this post the other day, I looked on line and found a set of Craftsman metric open ended ratcheting wrenches.  The price was $23.50 for 4 wrenches.  There is an open ended wrench on each end, so you end up with 8 different sizes:  Set Sizes Include: 8 x 10 mm, 13 x 14 mm, 15 x 16mm and 17 x 19mm.  The 19mm will work with the OF 1010 and OF 1400 (don't have the 2200, but I'd guess it might fit if the collet nut is the same size?)

Because it is a hand too, it has a lifetime guarantee.  It is: Craftsman 4-PC. Metric Open End Ratcheting Wrench Set # 21937

I got mine from Amazon (US) and it was a couple of $$ more than the Sears site, but I have Amazon Prime so shipping was free.  Mine arrives tomorrow.  I'll take a look at it and post a review.

I received the wrench set today.  The only problem with the set is getting it out of the plastic hanging display that hold the 4 wrenches.  You have to break some plastic clips that hold the wrenches in place.  I'm sure they don't have much shoplifting of individual wrenches from this display in the Sears stores.

@I tried it on my OF 1010, and it works well.  There is a little, black metal, spring-loaded piece in each end of the wrench that allows you to use it like a ratcheting box-ended wrench, without removing it from the nut you are tightening/loosening.  They are heavily chrome-plated steel, and look like they should last a long time.  As I mentioned before, because they are a Craftsman hand tool, they have a lifetime guarantee.  By the way, you can get an individual 19mm wrench, but it is a little more than half the price of the set of 4.  I'm sure I'll end up using all of them at some point.
