Such a sad state of affairs....in the middle of a nice project, Kapex suddenly goes down. Sudden loss of power; strong electrical odor.....don't misinterprete....this has been a terrific saw and gets used virtually everyday....in the shop and out on site....four years now (just beyond the warranty- well of course!)...

Already contacted Festool Repair Services and got an IMMEDIATE response....

So, I was looking for some advice on how best to package and ship this saw....do I make my own "box" (i.e. Plywood) or simply hand it over to UPS and hope for the best? Insurance? Is there a Standard size box this machine would fit in? Anyone have any idea what it may cost to ship this baby?

Also trying to get a handle on at what point/cost would it make more sense to replace this saw.....now that I see them on sale....

Always very appreciative to all the great advice and wisdom from those who frequent this site...

Don't know if it is the same where you are but in the UK Festool send a big plastic box with the courier for you to put the saw in.

I was under the impression that Festool would send you a box, might not be the case if your saw is out of warranty... At any rate, I would certainly opt for insurance on the package.

There was another thread on here about this same issue today.  Festool will send you a box for $17 if you are out of warranty.  You can ship via UPS for around $70.00 in the Festool supplied box if you print your shipping label online.

JPF,  I live about 20 min from you in windham nh and yesterday the exact same thing happened to my Kapex on the job site. I'll blame it on the snowstorm! I sent an email to festool repair but have not heard yet. (It was late friday night). Have you given any thought to replacing the brushes before shipping it off? I have no idea if that is it or not but figured I would try it first as there is no warranty on my saw either.  As far as them being on sale, you're more forgiving than me... 25 years using dewalt and hitachi and never an issue, granted never the accuracy of the kapex but I'm not pleased.  please let us know how you make out
