Well this was kind of a struggle, installed this deck at home about 9 years ago and for the last couple have not bothered oiling it so it now looks really weathered.
Spent the first couple of days cleaning and attempting to sand boards with RO150 and 40grit but became too much effort. So I did what the rental company said I could not, went and used a floor drum sander with 60 grit then 80. Finished any low spots and edges with RO90 and 150. Oiled all with penofin oil. Just like new again.

Looks good.  Penofin is a great product.  Did you wipe the deck down with acetone?  I used Penofin on a Ipe deck and had to wipe to down the wood with acetone first to help the oil penetrate being ipe has so many tannins.

Guess the word "Deck" scares them, rental companies think nails, paint and a wrecked machine.

Nice job on the deck, it's beautiful.

How long will the oil last before it needs another treatment and do you just re-oil on top of the old or is there some special prep that's necessary? Hopefully the drum sander doesn't have to make a return visit. [eek]

Should oil every 1-2 years, but may be less now that a patio roof will be on next week.
That is the first sanding in 9 years so all should be good.

Seems to be a thing here in Oz at the moment to slap on a deck or two as a quick home improvement .. Unfortunately the quality of the workmanship and material is often terrible. We've been looking at homes recently and it seems people just don't bother maintaining them either [sad]

Lovely job on yours [wink]
