Removing Label Goo from a CXS

I found a CXS on the closeout rack of a dealer and got a great deal on it.  [thumbs up]

Unfortunately, there was a label with the price for the tool stuck to the handle of the CXS.  When I peeled off the label it left behind a stickey residue that I would like to remove.  I'm hesitant to use the typical goof off or de-solv-it solvents as I tried to do this on a Systainer one time and the solvent melted the plastic of the Systainer. [crying]

The label was fairly large and left residue on both the plastic on the front side of the handle and the slightly different plastic on the back side of the handle.

Any suggestions on what would be a safe solvent to use that won't damage the tool?

Thanks

Try lighter fluid.

Is there a dealer in the Sun Valley area now?  Or were you in Twin or Boise?

Try plain old water. If the glue was water based it will come off. If that does not work, citrus cleaner.

Try a citrus based cleaner called Goo Gon.  It will remove the sticky residue without harming the plastic.  Enjoy your new tool.  Bruce W.

If there was a dealer in SV they would charge double the retail price for tools [scared]

I was in Boise. [wink]

I did not spell the product name correctly in the above post.  It is Goo Gone not Goo Gon.  Good luck.  Bruce W.

Thanks

De-Solv-It is also a Citrus Cleaner.  That removed the goo and then I used a little water to make sure there wasn't any citrus cleaner left behind.

Thanks again

3M Adhesive Remover. Available at Napa Auto Parts and other automotive suppliers. Typically cannot be shipped, so you will need to find it at a brick and mortar.

You really don't need to worry about damaging the plastic of power tools, they are always made from a very high quality plastic that resists solvents, even the stronger types. They are definitely not ABS like the systainers.

I mostly clean Festool tool with paint thinner and white spirit. Removes everything, paint, glue, caulk, foam, you name it.

And it does NOT damage the plastic in any way.

The citrus based cleaners work great, I even use them to remove the paper covering from old paper covered acrylics and polycarbonates with great results.  I use it to remove grease from my equipment, clothes and material on jobs.

Krud Cutter is good to, but wouldn't sweat the goo, it doesn't interfere with the sander, I don't sweat the small stuff

I'm fairly certain that the rubber-like over molding on the festool stuff won't like harsh solvents.  Check with the service department.

They have no problem with it. All plastic on the tools withstands almost any commonly used cleaning solvent.

I have cleaned a lot of tools.
