I love my Rotex 125 sander. BUT the sanding pads are just so unjustifiably expensive
I was sick and tired of paying so much for so little
So this is what I did
I hope this helps others - it has saved me a bucket load of MY money.

Great idea!  [big grin]

But, what about just using the plug-cutter as a hole-punch. Tap it thru the velcro with a hammer and turn it a couple of times. I'll think you should get not as rough holes that way.

I've been using a similar quick fix. I glue mirka's pad protectors straight onto a worn out pad using  two part super glue like mitre bond. I have noticed these patched up pads chew edge of discs easier though.

That is a great idea..  I have another ETS-150 pad which is failing .  I used Bosch and Makita sanders for years, never had one fail..  Something fussy about Festool sanders..

I like this idea..  they are too expensive for how long they last.

Have you tried going through the backside instead of the velcro/loop side instead with the hole bit.  You may be able to avoid as much cleanup afterwards.

Better yet.  Create a top side piece from scrap wood that the bit can be guided through.  Basically sandwhich the velcro between the top pre-holed piece and the bottom sacrificial piece.
