Replacement serial number labels/stickers on tools

Hello everyone,

I apologize if this has been asked before but a few FOG searches did not turn up anything. Is it possible to order a replacement for the label that lists the model name, T-Nr, S-Nr, etc. on a Festool power tool? The label on my PDC 18/4 is starting to peel up and is split on one side.

I could alternatively try to epoxy it back on, but a full replacement would look nicer.

Thanks!

When that happens to me, I usually trim the flappy corner and stem the bleeding.

If I were in Festool's shoes, I would only offer replacement Serial Number stickers via a "ship and replace" program, where Festool themselves replaces the sticker.  In my humble opinion, shipping a replacement sticker is pretty much an open invitation to fraud: slap it on an out-of-warranty tool and make a warranty claim, sell stolen tools with new serial numbers, etc.

I can see that being an issue. I suppose requiring a core deposit, as squall_line proposed, would at least stem the uncontrolled manufacture of labels. It seems the safest option may be to require that the tool be sent in to Festool and have them replace the label.

You only have a month left on the warranty so why the drama? Slap a piece of packing tape (or thousand mile an hour tape if you happen to have any) over it and/or glue it back down.  Or just leave it. "It" (the sticker) is about to become worthless anyway.

I just make sure I have a photo of the labels on my tools when I get them. After that I don't mind them getting damaged or unreadable anymore. It is just a tool meant for use, not a display item.

The warranty is from the date of purchase, not the date of manufacture.  If the tool wasn't purchased until 2020, it still has at least one more year left on the warranty.  For that matter, if it was purchased from Recon, it may have anywhere from zero to 364 days left on the warranty.  The most local Festool dealer to me still has tools on the shelf with 2018 build dates...

That said, a piece of tape would do just fine.

I have actually called festool for replacement stickers and they wont send them out.  However, when i have sent in tools for repairs like my kapex, it came back with new stickers.

Are you talking about just the sticker that covers the laser-adjustment holes; or the actual sticker with the serial number like the one Eric J is talking about?  (I think it's very unlikely they would replace that)

What you wrote is correct, IF the tool is registered after purchase.  If not, Festool has nothing to verify the purchase date unless the owner can produce the sales receipt.  If both of those are no, then they have to refer to the label on the tool as the start date of the warranty.  This is why it is important to register your tools and also keep receipts.

Yes, ^^^ this is exactly why you need to register. DOM may be quite a while before purchase, especially with the slower sellers.

The tool has about 6 months warranty remaining. It doesn't have any issues and sending it in for a new sticker would be a bit silly, so I'll glue it or live with it. Thanks for the information everyone.

After you glue it down maybe try some clear peel and stick label material over it, to protect it?
