RO 150 FEQ getting quite HOT.

I just took delivery of a RO 150 FEQ sander. The thing works like a dream. I was just wondering how hot these things are supposed to get? I was sanding a walnut slab and portions of the sander almost got too hot to touch. The performance never slowed however. I just want to know if this is normal.

It's normal for the Rotex sanders to run hot.  They'll run a little cooler with more use but still hotter than other sanders.

That's my experience too; same with Domino 500 (a tip for those who purchased under the June USA discount offer).

Edit in relation to Tom's post below -CT22. Both run considerably cooler now, but are warm.

Are you using a dust extractor?

The airflow through the sander helps cool it and the airflow through the pad is kind of necessary to cool both the pad and the abrasive cutting situation.

Thanks for all the responses. I run the sander in conjunction with with a CT26E. The pad itself is relatively cool and always clean. The body of the tool is the one that gets quite hot. But if that is normal, I certainly can live with it because this thing just performs!

Yup, what Brice said. +1

I was using my rotex 125 today to sand an outdoor table without my ct and I can tell you it ran a lot hotter than usual.
