Hello,

I have the RO 150 and am using it mainly to sand timber frame parts, using grits 50 through 180. Is there a guideline on what speed to use with the various grits and when to switch from RO to random? I also need to do some polishing on fiberglass. Is there a guideline for this application?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Mike, you'll be fine using the Rotex at full speed for sanding wood as you describe.  I'm no expert on polishing so I'll leave the fine details up to someone with an expertise in that area.  A very general overview of polishing with a Rotex, fine sand with the Festool Platin abrasive in rotary (Rotex) mode, then start the polishing (slow the sander down some 3-1 speed) with either felt or sponge with a polish of your choice.

You can use the Rotex(es) to take rough wood to a polished surface quickly.

To smooth out rough wood, mount your roughest grit and run it in gear driven orbital mode and then in RO mode. Switch to finer grit and repeat. When you get to 120, just use RO mode.

Above 400, just use gear driven orbital mode.

Also, let the sander do the work in RO. Don't press on it.
