RO150 FEQ to Sand a Deck - Advice on How to Proceed

I recently purchased a new house and I have a 20'X14' deck that need to be restored (cleaned and stained).  While the wood doesn't appear to be rotted, I feel the surface could probably use a sanding prior to staining. The rails are red pine. It looks like the previous owner never sanded or stained them. I have no idea what type of wood the deck itself is made out of but my quess is it's HD pressure treated spruce/fir.  If I were to do this, what mode, paper type, and grit schedule would you recommend with a RO150 FEQ?

Thanks,

I think Scott Burt did an article on this subject. Not sure where to find it.

Without seeing pictures of the general condition, my guess would be put a soft base pad on and go 60-80g Granat.

We are chemically stripping and neutralizing this failed Sikkens on redwood today, then will be doing a full Festool sand w/extraction on monday to prep for new finish.

Below is a sanded/oiled sample I did to spec the restoration.

Thanks Scott.  If it helps any, I've attached two pictures showing the state of the deck.

80 grit Granat will eat that right up (the deck). Depending on what you desire for a finished look, you may or may not have to sand the spindle/rail system. I just did a cedar rail system last weekend with ets 125 and Dx93, it was too easy.

Your welcome. We are continuing the deck shown in post #3 tomorrow. We chemically stripped on thursday and will be RO and ETS sanding this week. I can share progress pics if you are interested. If all goes well, we sand monday and oil tuesday.

That would be great Steve.  I have the ETS 150/3 as well so I'm interested to see how your using it for this application.

Please, call me Scott.  [big grin]

It is going to be a fun week. We have a Festool legend sitting in with our band this week. This should be a fun thread to watch.

Throwing a flag on that one, Bader! He was wearing the coveted Festool beanie early in the week when there was hard frost in the morning. Oddly, it rained and got very humid and I was able to sell him a dry Festool t shirt.

We are running the bejeebers out of this guy. He is a animal. Day one was all about sanding, and then the rain and humidity set in, so we made an airless spraying and backrolling technician out of him.

If anyone finds this saga of interest, let me know. It is all being documented, Topcoat style.

Yes, definitely. Well curious really. I went to your site but couldn't find any reference. Noticed the site is redesigned. Looks good.

Hi Scott--Just reviving an old thread. Tried to locate the progress on sanding and staining the deck on your website, but I was unable to locate it.  Do you have a url you can share?
