1st post on the FOG  [tongue] be gentle

After a bit of reading and looking at what I need from a sander I had decided on the RO125... But what! It's not available in 110v  ??? [censored]
I need this for site work here in the UK so has to be 110v. But why are the RO90 and RO150 available in 110v but not the RO125?

Looks like I'll now be deciding between the RO150 and ETS150/3

Thanks, yes that's my thought too, but then I got thinking about its larger throw over the ETS 150/3 and if it might be compromised for finishing?

Part of the work I will be doing is refinishing solid surface material/Corian which is all flat with sharp edges and low/medium gloss so hard pad and probably Platin paper for the final grades 400-1000/2000 grit. Mostly light scratches to deal with. So I'm looking at sanding with a range of grit from say 180 to 1000/2000 and probably a polish to follow. My worry with the RO 150 may not achieve the best results at the highest grits? With the 150/3 I might even get away without polishing if the results are improved over the RO? I know I'm trying to achieve a finished result with just one tool, but great if I can.

If there used to be a 110v RO125 but not anymore (it is not on the UK website anymore) they probably discontinued it because of low sales. Which makes me think most 110v users opt for a 150 mm sander instead, Rotex or ETS.

I am not familiar with working with Corian so I can't specifically comment on how the RO150 would do that material, but it can get a perfect finish on other materials like wood, metal, stone and plastic. People focus to much on stroke size, while your technique is also very important, and with the proper technique a RO150 can get the same result as sanders with a smaller stroke. Especially when you get into the higher grits the stroke size gets less important because the grit of the paper becomes the determining factor.

If you look on YouTube for Rotex 150 you'll find more than one video where people go from coarse sanding to fine finish.

That makes sense mine is probably 5 or 6 years old

I love it.It is my go to sander I've a RO90 and ETS125 too hardly use them

I have fabricated & finished plenty of Solid Surface worktops and the sander I use is the Rotex 150.

It has always done an excellent job when using 120 grit right up to a 1000 grit Platin.

Having said that, I am thinking of getting the new ETS 150EC after using one a couple of months ago. Far lighter than the Rotex.

That's reassuring, think I'll probably go with the RO150 :-)

The RO150 is what almost all Corian/other solid surface manufacturers go for. Almost no-one in industry uses 125mm sanders.

I bought the ro150 in 110v last month and its great so quick and powerful

Thank you. Do you use it with a 110v CTL? I'm sure I read concerns over the 110v tool switching socket... Is it founded?

The concerns were due to the label on the 110v CTL that states a very low amperage max. This has been settled as liability protection only. The CTL's will run almost all of your Festools. Not to worry.

Yeah I know that one well I think I was the first one to ask about it back in 2007 and festool UK said just ignore the sticker. Since then I've not had a problem running anything on my midi's. Apart from the kapex runs better if I use a bigger 5kva transformer.

Aaah great, I'll also be using it with my TS55 guide saw so that's good to hear  [thanks]
