I have been using a craftsman 25 gallon air compressor for years and i hated it. Takes for ever to fill and is loud as hell.
So I went to my local tool store and picked up the jc10. what an amazing little tool. It has a 2.5 gallon air tank and it fills from 0 to full  (125psi) in less then 2 minutes. Best part about it is when the thing kicks on its so quiet no one is bothered. That's important to me because I'm often working inside the customers home while they are home. The power draw from the compressor is also much lower then the craftsman I'm used to. You can use the jc10 on any outlet with an extension cord and never worry about popping the breaker or melting the cord. I really can't say enough good things about this tool. if your in the market for a small air compressor, do yourself a favor and consider this one.

I have one also. Really fantastic. I can keep my bigger makita in the garage/yard and the JC10 in the house for bigger jobs. Can handle some remodel sized framing also.

I'm a fan, too.  So quiet it doesn't interrupt conversation or phone calls, can even still hear my music clearly.

Works well for the light work I do.  No framing, but running small nailers, upholstery staplers, blowing off crud, inflating, etc.

Would never go back to my Porter Cable pancake monstrosity. [scared]

I just picked up one of these and agree with all the comments above.  Very quiet.  I do have one question - what is the black filter thing with one threaded end and a drain tube on the other?  Where does it install?

I used Craftsman compressors for years. They were inexpensive and after going thru several of them, i just decided to look at them as throw-away type equipment.  The neighbors would agree on the throw-away part when i would forget to shut the off when finished using.  They would complain about the noise when awakened at around one or two in the morning.  When i brought home that little JC10 after the latest breakdown of Craftsman compressor, it is so much faster than those huge 10 gallon monster throw aways i had been bringing home from Sears.  I can put air into four trailer tires, tighten the lugs in less time than it ver took with the 10 gal monsters.  And, the neighbors NEVER complain about the noise.  In the winter time, i even bring into my wood shop located in the cellar.  THE BOSS has never once complained about the noise.

It is the air filter and housing.  It screws to the compressor.  Great instructions included with this machine.

I am about to mAke another round of tool purchase based on what i need not what i want.

I really "WANT" one of these to replace my Porter Cable. The noise of the Porter Cable is extremely disruptive when i get all zen and into my work.

Not to mention anything to cut down that ringing in the ears after a long day in the workshop. Probably be the best $200 you could spend when you are sitting in a doctors office going half deaf later in life..

I don't think it would be good for bigger construction nailers, but it's probably fine for the ones you'd typically use in the shop.  Weighs about a third less than the JC10.  (I have a JC10 and just love mine).

Noisy machines have absolutely no effect to hearing. I know 8)
I have never worn hearing protection until I was 39.
I can hear perfectly:  Every cicada, katydid, peeper, cricket.
no matter where I go or where I go, I can always hear them.
They can never sneak up on me!  Never.
I can hear them perfectly.

This was exactly my reasoning for getting the Rolair.  I would do a bit of brad nailing and then get into something else.  I think my air gun has a small leak, so the compressor would kick back on and scare the bejeesus out of me.  Not so great if you happen to be doing something delicate at the time.  No thanks!  Sell the Porter Cable and upgrade to the Rolair.  You'll be glad you did. I know I am.

Who the hell is gonna buy a used Porter Cable when HD sells it in a kit with two guns and a stapler for like $200.

I figure i could get like $40-50 for it on Craigslist at best?

But yeah i will sell it when i get the new RollAir.

Its funny i have quite a few tools to purchase in the near future and the RollAir is one of the ones i am most excited about. I keep having to put the breaks on the purchase though because i dint really "need" it like i do some of e other tools i have purchased and will purchase like say a Domino or sander so i can sand dust free now that i have all these other dust free tools..

Yeah, Domino is awesome and will change the way you work. Same thing for my Mirka Ceros ROS. Two seriously fine tools. Thanks for the advice on the RolAir.

What do you guys think about the Senco 1010?  I have had that on my wish list for awhile. Was not aware of the Rolair line.

I have the Senco 1010 that I keep in the my shop.  It is 2-3x's noisier than the JC 10 and runs out of air twice as fast and takes twice as long to fill back to pressure. I am sure you wood be 4x's happier with the Rolair. All of the reasons above are why I bring my Rolair into the shop in the winter time.  I am not running lawn equipment in the snow, so don't need it in the barn.
