There is indeed a bit of a technique involved, mostly because the smaller diameter exaggerates the issue.
The larger diameter models can help cover it up, but they can do it too.
Holding it so that the pad is completely flat is just asking for trouble. I'm not saying to tilt it to where you can actually see it, but you need to apply a bit more pressure to the upper right.
Think of it like you are looking at a clock. The area around the 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock is where you need to focus. Not tilt, that is bad too, just lean slightly toward that area.
There is some "feel" to it, and once you get it, you will be fine.
