I want to refinish the floors in my kitchen.  HD rents large upright drum sanders, however I don't think I will be able to safely maneuver it around the island cabinets without dinging them.
I'll have about 120 sq feet to do.  40' x 3'

Do you think I'd get good results?

Yes you will get good results, if your back can take it. For floors a lot of pros have an RO in their arsenal.

For something that small if I didn't own a floor sander I probably wouldn't; rent one. Since I have one on hand I would use it to get as close as I could and use the RO to finish up near the cabinets.

I know guys that have used an RO on their knees to do 1500 sq foot exterior decks so you can definitely can do that job with an RO.

120 sq feet is nothing for an RO, its more your body than anything else. Use some gloves and get it done.

And order the front handle for the RO for me it really helps, I never take it off.

+1 for the front handle (part number: 495188). Makes a big difference and will certainly help with the floor work.

Don't be afraid to start with a low grit and work your way through to 80 . The rotex will work great,
