New to Festool recently bought a dust extractor and a few sanders (posted in separate thread).  Well today spent a few hours with the Rotex RO150 and CT36 E.  Very happy with both products and glad I made purchase overall.

Sanding a floor in an enclosed front porch.  Have no idea how old it is but would have to guess at least 50 - 75 years.  I believe the wood floor is red oak, but grain seems a bit tighter than normal and wood is extremely hard.  Not sure if its due to age or the previous finish or combination of both.

Hit it with the Rotex in Rotary mode.  Tried several combinations of paper including Saphir 36 and Granite 60, 80 & 100 at various speeds.  Settled in with the 60 at about 4 - 4-1/2.  I went through paper faster than expected although paper appeared to have a lot of life still left in it was definitely not cutting very well after about 15 sq ft of floor.  Just changed out the paper frequently and job went pretty quick.  The floor was not perfectly flat and level so needed to feather edges a bit to remove the prior stain.  I was putting a fair amount of weight on machine and found the easiest material removal was if I put slightly more pressure on heel of pad (near dust collection port) and then came back over material with machine held flat.

Very impressed with speed of material removal (with fresh paper) and dust collection is much better than I thought possible.  Extremely happy with the dust extraction I think it is the best I've ever seen or used.  There was hardly any dust left on surface and nothing noticeable in air as I've experienced with other sanders and vacuums before.  Vibration wasn't too bad and machine ran for about 3-1/2 hours straight without a hiccup.  The sander was much louder than I expected, I definitely should have been wearing ear pro.  Will be sure to bring some along tomorrow.

Going to hit floor again tomorrow with 60 on random orbit, then 80 followed by 100.  May or not take it to 120.  Hopefully will be putting coat of stain on tomorrow.

[member=69912]cgrutt[/member] nice work on the floor.  Rotex are great sanders and as you highlight the dust extraction is great.  Be sure to show a picture when finished.

Thanks.  I took it down to P100 and stained yesterday came out nice so far.  Need to put a couple coats of poly on it.  Used the Rotex all day yesterday prepping some rooms for paint.  It was a bit of a challenge operating overhead on ceiling while standing on ladder but did a great job.  I threw a headset in the Systainer much more comfortable using machine with ear pro should be included as standard equipment lol.  Really my only complaint with machine is how loud it is but I suppose it's also much more powerful than my other Sanders (closest thing to it is an older 6" Porter Cable RO).  Really not in same ballpark as the Festool.  Very happy with purchase.  Should note I used a DTS400 with delta pad along walls on floor.  Worked ok but very slow in comparison to the Rotex.  I was going back and forth between the DTS and the Rotex 90.  Think I'm going to order the RO 90 as well for painting prep.

With the edge protector you actually should be fine using the Rotex along walls, just not in the very corner obviously. FWIW, I own the Rotex 90 and while it is great for some things I hate its ergonomics. I suppose you have a good idea of that from the 150. Unless you need its specific qualities (versatility and aggressiveness) I would stick with the DTS for paint prep.

Thanks, there was a quarter-round molding on floor so edge protector wasn't registering where it needed to.  I did run Rotex as close to side wall as I could it worked fine.  Used the DTS mostly in corners but also along edge of molding.  The room that I was prepping for paint had some moldings where RO90 would have worked better than the RO150.  Still very happy with purchase so far just thinking about next purchases...

Finished floor last night it came out pretty nice.  Some more pics.

Three coats of poly.  Took some sheen off stain with fine scotch-brite pad and sanded poly between coats with 320.  Hand sanded and used the CT36 with brush to remove dust.  Worked great.
