router cutters/bits/whatever you call em

Hi Fin

I have tried quite a few makes including those boxed sets that seem so jolly good value when you are at a show - but they are rubbish really.

I used to always buy CMT but they go dull just as quickly as the cheap ones. I went to Axminster about a year ago to buy another CMT cutter and discovered that they do not sell them any more. I was persuaded to try the Axminster Axcaliber cutters and must say that they are great value. I also have a mixed set of Trend 1/4" cutters which are pretty good too - I think that they may have come from Axminster.

I have a friend who buys nothing but Festool cutters - they are not cheap but he says that they are the best around.

I suppose the bottom line is that you pay for what you get.

Whiteside and CMT cutters work best for me.  I always use carbide cutters for hardwoods.

IMO Whiteside are a good value.  I also like Amana Tool a lot.
I bought a bearing assortment kit from Whiteside. It's great with round over, cove, and rabbet bits because it multiplies the depths of the bits.  They work with other mfg.'s bits as well.
