Routing for Incra T-Track

Hi.  I'm making a wooden bench for my MFT, and I'd like to incorporate some Incra T-track into the supports for some additional clamping options.

It looks like the T-track has a flare at the bottom of it.  I'd like to rout the supports so the front face of the T-track is flush with the front face of the support.

Do you need a special router bit to get the flare shape of the T-track into the wood?  If so, what bit do I use?

Thanks!

By flair  do you mean the little bead/ridge at the top and bottom edges?

I put Incra track in my bench top. Just used a regular stright bit. I set them just a hair below the surface to make sure no wood pieces got marred when sliding them on the bench.

Are yours going to be vertical?

The Incra track has flat sides, any straight bit will work.

Well, not exactly...

Anyway, an appropriately sized straight bit is all that is needed.

I like that t-track setup, does it give you enough support to handplane edges like that? I would be worried the piece might slip on me.

How hard or dangerous would it be to add a strip like that to my current work bench? It's too heavy for me to want to flip it on its side to route something like that now  [sad]

As has been said.

Just a 3/4" bit, set slightly deeper than 1/2"

Why would it be dangerous to rout it vertically? I've done that many times.

I'm not sure of the strength in reference to hand planing, as that piece was done in a router table.

But if I wanted additional strength, I'd consider a pair of T-tracks, mounted a few inches away from each other.

As far as routing that, I used a 1400 and the edge guide, riding along the top of the bench.

One additional word....the screws that come with the Incra T-track have a rather large head, and the quick clamps drag on them.

I believe that I used #6 x 1/2" flat head screws.

Well, on a horizontal surface I can plunge, vertically I would feel uncomfortable using one hand to plunge and lock it while the other hands holds it in place.
