I really want this sander. The only thing holding me back is that it does not use the plug it cords.I really like the whole festool system of being able to switch tools at the work. The efficiency of the system sold me and that is why I use so many Festool tools in my work. Why is this sander not equipt with the plugit system? and when will it be?

Thank you,

Thank you for your question.

The successor of the RS2E, the RS200E has a plug-it cord.

Why don't we sell the RS200 in the US? Half-sheet sanders are in general not very popular in the US. Festool sells a big number of half-sheet sanders in Europe. The number of half-sheet sanders we are selling here is small. The random-orbital sanders are a lot more popular here.

Introducing the RS200 would mean to design a 110 volt version of it (currently just available in 220 volt) and then apply for UL. This process is quite costly and current sales of the RS2 don't justify that expense.

The head of Festool's product management department will be in Las Vegas next week. I will check
with him what it takes to get the RS200 (with plug-it) in 110 volt for the US market.

Thanks again for your question.

Christian,

Thanks for the reply. Is there any way to retrofit the rs2e to accept the plug its?

Christian,

How about selling some of the plug-it adapters in the us?

Thanks,

Eiji

Eiji,

I don't want to sound again like we are blaming everything on UL...

The plug-it adaptors to retrofit non plug-it tools requires UL approval. UL told us they won't approve
the adaptors and that a tool that is altered does not have UL approval anymore.

We will look again into this and see if we can find a solution for non-plug-it tools.

Regards,

Christian

Christian,
All we need is a short (~6") cable with the female Plug-it connector on one end and a standard female electrical plug connector (like on an extension cord) on the other.  This way we can plug in tools using one Plug-it cable attached to the vac or mains outlet and not have to cut/rewire our non Plug-it compatable tools.  Surely this would not be too difficult to push through UL...but I'm sure they can make it painful.

Thanks!

Hi,

But doesn't it cost something extra  to produce,  provide support for, and keep an additional tool  in the line just for North America?

Seth

I'm with Mark. I'd love to have a short extension cord with a female 3-prong receptacle at one end, and a plug-it receptacle on the other. Then I wouldn't feel so bad about having bought my ATF55 just before the newer version came out with the plug-it cord. Surely it wouldn't be hard to make or get UL approval for, especially since Festool apparently makes such a thing but without the 3-prong end...

Poto,

We discussed the plug-it retrofit kit with UL, they said NO.

Hi Christian,

Thanks for checking on this. I'm still stumped as to why UL would approve the little pigtail that plugs my CTmini into the wall, but not a plug-it pigtail. As Mark said, it's really just an extension cord...

Cheers, Poto

Can you use Plug-it cord ¤491145? I think people call it as pig-tail conversion.
It's designed to 240 volt (=lower amperage = thinner copper cord for same wattage) so check power consumption of sander before making changes. (these low wattage tools are ok with thinner cords, someone in US might help)
I use several of these in my non-Festools and they work well. Keep in mind that in Finland it is legal to change cord for your electric tools etc. Don't know your situation.
