I just purchased this sander.  And like every other festool I own (this plus 7 other tools and 4 other Systainer/products) the tools and storage lives up to the reputation.  Amazing products.

My criticism of the RTS 400 is the insert.  It's made to fit one of 3 sanders (ETS 125, DTS 400, or RTS 400).  I'm guessing it doesn't work well for any of them.  It's next to impossible to store the sander, plug it cord and any amount of paper with the RTS 400.  What is frustrating is that the sys 1 has plenty of room but the insert eliminates it due to various "cut outs" to fit the sander that I did not buy.  I'll probably dump the insert so I can use the Systainer as intended and store the cord and paper.    Not up to Festool standards.  Please fix this.  No other insert in any of my other 11 Festool products is dis functional like this.

Thanks for considering this.

I've never found the insert lacking.  I store paper "on edge" in two different compartments.  No need to unplug the cord like the Domino, just coiled in the box.  I hope that helps you.  I just used it same day between coats on a bathroom vanity and between coats on bathroom drywall.  Fine stroke works great for both.

Thanks.  I appreciate the feedback and that it works for you.  I'll play with it some more to see if I can make it work better.  When I compare it to the ease of use and efficiency of almost all my other inserts I do find it lacking, though.  The RO 90 and ETS 150/3 inserts by comparison for sanders I find to be much more thoughtful and commensurate with my expectations of "FES".

Since this is a constructive feedback forum one potential improvement would be for the RTS sander to sit left of where it does, then eliminate the delta paper cut out on the right and replace it with a cut out for flat 80x133 paper.  This I believe would help with cord storage too. But it would require a seperate insert for each sander.  Which I believe Festool does for other products?  Carvex and Trion, OF1010 and OF1400, as examples of other similar products, don't "share" inserts.  Do they?

I've come to really appreciate the Festool system and their attention to detail, quality
and thoughtfulness.  This insert just surprised me as inconsistent with that.  That's all.  [big grin]

Agree on the sander.  It exceeded my expectations.  Thanks again.
