More info coming in the next few minutes....

Edit....
Over the coming weeks, Festool will be introducing a new abrasive designed specifically for wood applications - Rubin 2.  Rubin 2 represents a gigantic step forward in abrasive technology, producing better results up to 30% faster, while lasting up to 30% longer than the original Rubin.

Finish Faster - Rubin 2 is designed to quickly shed wood fibers, eliminating clogging so the abrasive stays sharp, leading to a 30% faster removal rate

Save Money - Since Rubin 2 is designed to prevent clogging due to buildup of pitch and wood fibers, you will get up to 30% longer life out of every sheet

The Best Finish - Designed for rapid grit progression, you will spend less time going from 80 to 220, achieving the best possible finished surface in the least amount of time

Broader, More Complete Range of Grits
In addition, Festool is taking the opportunity to fill in what were formerly gaps in the abrasive range, adding 32 new grits/sizes. And not least, Rubin 2 now covers the full range of wood applications, extending from P40 all the way to P220. Stay tuned for availability.

Timing
Rubin 2 will be introduced gradually over the next few months.

I'm sensing a little Hollywood movie title thing going on with the sandpaper naming ... could this be Rubin 2 - Wrath of Hardwood ?

Coming soon, to a Systainer near you...Festool presents, Rubin 2 - a story of true grit. Directed by Woody Sanderson and produced by Al Rotex

Stone......That was fantastic

I concur, I was trying to follow it up with SOMETHING funny and I had nothing.  I guess just give respect and props when due... lol

So now we add Rubin 2 to the existing stable of second generation sand papers:

Brilliant 2
Titan 2
Platin 2

The big question is, which sandpapers type will hit the 3rd sequel first?

Maybe the generation 3 papers will incorporate new features .... like aromatics. Then they could make the range ten times more complex!

... "I'd like some Brilliant 2, in 150mm, Jetstream pattern, 80 grit, scented in cedar lodge ... and give me the same in 120 - but make those forrest dew"

They just need to talk to Yankee Candle. They're already in "2 x 4". They just need to add "First Down", "Riding Mower", and especially "Man Town" scents.  [tongue]

Hi Everyone

I should have mentioned that I have tried Rubin 2 when I played with a Rotex 150 at a show - it did seem to be much better than the 'old' Rubin but I only have a Rotex 90 and so that one try cannot be conclusive. The chap running the stand did point out its benefits and I must confess that I was very impressed. The new grit arrangement is much more efficient allowing for longer life of each sheet, better abrasion and improved dust collection.

But...just like Eric, I have a systainer full of Rubin that has to be used first. I am going to refill with a mixture of Rubin 2 and Granat - if you have not tried running through the grades on wood with Granat then give it a try.

Peter
