Rutlands selling classic systainer clones at bargain.

Really? I spoke to them and they said the tote tray was compatible so the rest probably is also. They have had liads of orders.

I've ordered one set so will see how they are. They seem like  other clones so must be ok. Made of abs. Only thing that could be inferior quality could be the latches.

For that price its worth it. They are probably made for them by tanos.

It seems that the tote tray and trolly are the same so I can add some wheels to the tray and have a second trolley.

What have you had from Rutlands that has not lived up to expectations?

Basically, almost everything I've ever bought from there has turned out to be a disappointment at best, or a POS at worst; a router table, a Tormek clone, several styles of clamps, a set of chisels, foam brushes, and several other bits I can't be bothered to mention.

The only things I'm happy with are a Worksharp 3000, and a bobbin sander (which is great when you add a larger table, the one as supplied is far too small).

I generally try to avoid Rutlands wherever possible now. Oh, and I've left several reviews on there (mostly negative) which they've taken down...

I highly doubt that. Why would Tanos make knock-offs of their own product?

Oh, and I doubt they're compatible with classic systainers either, since they're slightly larger than Tanos ones - 443 x 310mm vs. 398 x 298mm.

Same as JRB really the worksharp is great but most things Rutland's sell are cheap and nasty. I'm sure if you google them you will see plenty of bad reviews.

I have to say I agree on the Rutlands front, a bunch of 1/2" router bits for a table I got are good but have only really had light use, and some T-track rails actually fit festool clamps with no fettling required, but everything else has been 'disposable' at best...

Axminster are usually a little more £ but better, although they have a few 'straight to bin' items too!

@OP have you looked at vantainer.com for T-Locs instead? He's selling them with free top and bottom foams as well as a range of ply dividers at pretty keen prices, seems a better deal than rip offs that won't be compatible.

Ok. I hear what you guys are saying. I'll see what they are like when they arrive as I've already ordered them.  [crying]

I have taken your views on board and just sent rutlands an emsil asking for the order to be cancelled for full refund. Should gave done this earlier during office hours. Hopefully they will cancel the order for a full refund.

What are the chances the latch positions line up with the classic systainers?

I'd say next to none given as JRB points out their footprint is different in both dimensions.
45mm and 12mm is quite a lot if you look at where the latches are located. at 29 and 19mm from the corners.

Quality of their stuff IMO is poor......but thats not really a problem as they never have any stock to send you !!

It's a shame about Rutlands, they used to sell really good stuff aimed at the professionals but they seem to have changed their target market.

I'm happy now as my order was cancelled and full refund given. Thank you for the feedback that saved my money. [smile]

They were either selling Tanos or they were not.
Which was it?

As FT has moved to the T-Loc the classic seems to be dumped.

Edit: I see now it is not classic Systainer, nor Tanos.

worst case give it to the wife for her cake decorating kit or use for craft type things. going by the price you can get the makita systainers for I can see these being cheap just cheaper. many cheap tool boxes out there taker more abuse than the expensive ones with no ill effects.

they are probably made as a job lot and hammered out so you can only get the configured setup or an order for the US or canada shifted to the UK which isn't is as much of a recession, I wonder who dakota are seeing as the only reference is to rutlands.

what is the patent limit on classic systainers I wonder?

tempted to get the wife one, new house has a breakfast bar overhang in need of something to go under it and the cupboards are full of caking stuff which only gets used twice a year.

I was excited to get a set as I could get to trolley roller boards out of it. The top shelf would have needed wheels to be added though. This was to be a cheap way of getting roller boards for my systainers.

I am still thinking that maybe they could be adapted to work with the systainers,  but would need to examine one. I may still end up buying it at some point to try.

can you not make some simple MDF roller boards? if the bottom box is always going to be there then you can screw some old latches to fix it.

Hmm just given myself an idea now :)

I've just picked up two alu folding carts from lidl which take a double stack quite neatly for trundling them out of my way.

Can you post a pic of the lidl carts please?  I will probably make some roll boards as the festool ones are just too expensive.

If anyone is interested in these rutland systainer type tool boxes, rutlands are doing 15% off and free delivery for orders over £50.00 .

So these will work out as around £59. There is one review by someone who has bought them and he says that he thought they would be flimsy but they are strong and he recommends to buy. He also has used systainers classic and t-loc so something to think about.
