Sander for Plywood Cases

Hi,

I am going to buy a new sander, specifically for sanding large plywood panels.  Most of my work is cabinetry, and I have a RTS400 for sanding face frames.  I am thinking about the RS2 although I hear so many good things about the ETS 150.  This would be a light sanding to not go through the thin veneer, and for between coats.

Can I have your recommendations.  Thanks.

Brian.  I use the ETS 125 for my carcass sanding. I use the RS2 more for table top sanding. Either ETS to me would do a great job. It would depend on your choice of 5 or 6 inch papers

I think the best choices would be ETS 150 /5 /3  or the RS2. But my choice would be the ETS 150/3.

Is the RTS400 just too small/slow for this?

I would go for the ETS 150-3. It is a fantastic finish sander & the 6" paper covers a lot of area when sanding panels.

I use the ETS 125 along with the DTS.

I have an RS2 and think it is a great sander for what you have described for usage. That said, I think I wou,ld recommend the 150/3 because you already have one rectangular sander (rts). You should have an ROS in your arsenal and the 150/3 is a great one. The RS2 and the RTS are both orbit sanders, not random orbit sanders and there is a subtle difference, so that is one reason to recommend the 150/3.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.  Survey says buy the 150/3.  Back from Lee Valley with it and trying it out.  Sweet sander !
