hi all. i am looking for a sanding block with built in dust collection. any reconmendations.

On that side of the pond you should be able to Festool hand sanding blocks that have dust extraction.  One model is the HSK 80x130.  You could also look for Mirka blocks.  There are similarities.

I have the Mirko blocks and really like them.  I have the Festool blocks without dust collection and find them to be the most comfortable I have ever used.  I also have one of the NAINA HSK80... that was a gift from a forum member.

Happy searching!

There are 4 models from Festool under the name HSK-A xxx. Sizes are 80x200 (#496965), 115x226 (#496963), 80x400 (#496964) and 80x130 (#496962).
They are sold as set of 4 (#497101 at €325) or separately. The prices are quite high.

I think the model 80x130 is very useful but still €63.

And Mirka carries 3 models which are almost the same models as Festool with slightly different sizes 70x125, 115x230 and 70x198. They might need an adapter for a Festool hose.
But some are a lot cheaper. Model 115x230 costs only €62 while the Festool costs €113 and model 70x125 is a lot pricier at €57.

You might also look at Tilgear UK, they sell some of the (Mirka imitation?) sanding blocks at modest prices, size 70x125 at €21.

Hamach sells the same line of pads as Festool for about 60% of Festool's price. Only difference is the hole pattern with some because Festool's pads are meant for Festool paper and Hamach's pads for commonly available paper.

Alex, the small blue sanding block looks identical to the Mirka that I just bought this weekend. I used a stepped vacuum hose adapter from Fein to match that larger round ribbed adapter on the end of the sanding block to mate to my Festool 27mm hose. If you pull the round ribbed adapter off the block, you'll find that the smaller ribbed tube that's part of the block doesn't fit the ID of the Festool 27mm hose as it's just maddenly a bit too small.  I cut the portion of the Fein adapter that I didn't need, and left the needed section attached to the OD of the stock round, ribbed adapter on the block.  The stock Festool hose neatly fits in the ID of the Fein adapter, and the whole assembly still rotates on the sanding block around the innermost tube as well.
With my CT-22 on and the hose attached, the sanding block pulls enough vacuum around the mismatched hole pattern of the Festool 80x133mm paper to still collect dust, but I may modify my sanding block further by adding direct Festool hole patterns to it in a few places to help with dust collection.  I'd really look at the Festool line up if it was allowed here in the US, but as it's not at the time, one does with one has to work with. Why wouldn't Festool sell those over here?

I don't know, but I've read, and been told by my local dealer that for whatever reason, Festool has elected to not sell them here in the States. I don't see how an Underwriters Lab. thing could hold these from coming in, so maybe post the question in the "Ask Festool" section of the forum and see what Shane H. has to officially say about it.
