Where do you recommend getting TS55 blades sharpened in the UK? I'm in West Devon, but ideally mail order unless anyone knows somewhere local.

Axminster offer a service where they send off - but their store is not anywhere near me.

I've used a local garden machinery place before and wasn't impressed with the service.

Thanks.

Don't want to insult your intelligence, but does it actually need sharpening as opposed to a good clean to remove any pitch, sap, glue, etc that's on the blade?

I recently got reacquainted with cleaning blades as opposed to just sending them off for sharpening/replacing when "blunt". I was amazed how blades that would burn and not cut without forcing through the material were just in need of a good clean to remove the crap that was caked on the teeth.

Thanks - it's not just the TS55 blades - it's a few others too.

I have cleaned them many times and to be honest they are not that bad. But still want to get a few properly refreshed :).

What do you use to clean them? I have some Screwfix Resin remover which they don't seem to do any more, and some grey scouring pads (super fine).

I use a combination of Everbuild UPVC solvent:https://www.tool-net.co.uk/p-324172..._5txHl9GKFi2hIptTyQyjiXVSuJ52ixFrExoCBU7w_wcB

and Axminster blade and bit cleaner:http://www.axminster.co.uk/axcalibe...mFCkvLMt2Uy23osLraX4vUOqTf5j0kyjbgBoCY4fw_wcB

Along with medium grade scouring pads and a spark plug cleaning brush.

I use cellulose thinners to clean my blades & cutters, cheapest option I've found as I can usually pick up small amounts for free.

As for sharpening services if you scroll down this linkhttp://www.sdauk.co.uk/member-directory.html you should hopefully find a member of the saw doctor association not too far away from you.
If not try a local Google search for saw doctors it's surprising how many are out there.

I use either Crud Cutter or Trend Resin cleaner. The trend works better of the two

Try Davenport Saws in Yeovil. I do not know if they do mail order but they did three of my Festool blades for just over £22 last time.

Thanks everyone - very helpful.

I have found a local firm that send to same place as Axminster so will try them I think.

Plymouth Tools and Spares - send to Allied Tooling.

But may also get some of that Trend cleaner to try.

I had to rip a door (soft wood) down for a with the TS55 and it cut out - but I've now bought a Panther blade (was using the original 48t blade  [embarassed]). I still thought it would manage it for a one off job but it didn't! Well had to do in two cuts.

This may help, the 28T blade (496302) is popular around here for door trimming, also trying a slower speed can help, you should get a little more torque to complete the cut even if it takes a little longer, especially if the machine is 110v.

Not trying to teach anyone to suck eggs, just passing on things I've learnt and been told.

Thanks Warren.

Would that be recommended above the 24t panther I just bought for trimming doors? I have two oak doors to do.

Thanks.

Ripping softwood, then the panther 496301 would be the best blade (it's only got 12 teeth though not 24). But for doors the one I mention above I think would be better. Just my opinion though.

Just to back up what Warren has said - I use the Universal (28 tooth) blade for the majority of the oak and walnut that I rip and it works a treat. Just take it slowly and you will get a very reasonable cut finish which might just need a couple of skims with a plane. I use the 48 tooth blade for all sheet material - even Perspex.

Don't know where I got 24t from?!

Think I'll stick with the Panther blade for now - hassle returning it and it is meant to be the right blade for ripping since I already have two fine cut blades. Understand the finish may not be quite as good but would prefer to have something that will get through anything easily for the rare occasions I use the TS55 for ripping solid wood. I use my table saw usually.

Thanks for the advice - very helpful.

PS came across this video from a somebody we know :):

I think Phil is recommending the Panther blade although not exactly sure!
