Securing the MFT fence

This is so obvious in hindsight I'm almost embarrassed to post it, but I don't recall seeing it mentioned and so here goes...

I've been a bit dismayed that the fence on the MFT is kinda wobbly--I get it all squared up but it's not really locked down. Looking at the knobs that screw on below the table, I realized that they really didn't bear on the table at all, so I slipped a couple of fender washers on them, retightened, and voila! the fence is far more stable. With the plastic stop attached on the end rail mine is pretty solid. A $.25 improvement.

I've had a problem with overtightening but never the problem you describe.I like your solution but the knobs should have been tight. The knobs are at least 22mm at the business end so the should bear on the mdf. If they won't thread into the pivot assembly deep enough to reach the mdf check the holes to make sure they aren't full of compacted dust or other junk. Finally, check the thickness of your mdf and let us know. I don't know offhand what it should be.
