Shaper: good deal? and circuit Q

This Grizzly shaper is available at $400 to me. Yay/nay? Also, my main Q is, the motor says 3hp, but is rated 18amps. Current models at 18amps are said to be 5hp. What gives? Also, will I need be required to hook it to a 30amp circuit? All I have left are 20amp circuits.

My “3 hp” Laguna band saw is rated at 12 amps 240 V, and Laguna recommends a 30 amp breaker. Based on that, I suspect you’ll need a 30 amp circuit for the shaper.

Yay/nay? Depends on what you do, if you’re building doors I don’t think it’s possible to own too many shapers...

Thank you, I got it today for $350. The cutters alone, the ones I could identify, add up to $882+tax. It runs smooth, has a flat top, and will be nice on occasional door and table parts. It's not the most pretty thing, but it should tick along for a one man shop.

It looks like a Freud paint job on the tooling, but I can't recall ever seeing paint on the carbide, so it could be something else.
