So, now that I have my new trion and ts55 I've been having to invent things to make with them. Here's a little shelf I made last night for my daughter.  Fairly straightforward and quick, but was nice to get to play with the new toys.

Not sure how to insert comments between pictures, so instead:
1. Cutting the pieces with TS55.
2 & 3. Cutting details for ends with Trion. This was a revelation to me; so easy to get finish results on the first go!
4. Checking it out...so far so good!
5. Cutting slots for biscuits...this is my first time using the things so this was also an exciting moment! Seemed to go ok.

(part two)

6. Glued and pinned up
7. Up on the wall...all is well
8. Having met daughter's approval!

So as I said, a simple enough little thing to make but was pleased that my first time making something in this way was fun to do...maybe the domino lies in my path somewhere later on for more ambitious projects?

Have a great new year, all.
Rick

Thanks Speed!

No, I have a cheap biscuit jointer that I used; I haven't used biscuits before so it was quite a big deal for me! Anyway, am now loving biscuits and am thinking about picking up a better machine...can't quite stretch to a domino yet and think it'd be overkill for me at this stage anyway. Any thoughts?

Cheers,
Mac

Tolerate the biscuit cutter you have now until you can get the domino  [2cents]

Mac,

I agree with Harry and will carry it a little further.  In general, the most expensive tools are the ones where you upgrade in stages; for example, get a cheap biscuit joiner, upgrade to a better one, then a better one, then buy the domino.  Add the costs of all the joiners to the cost of the domino and it looks expensive.

Photographers do this all the time with lenses, and especially with tripods.  The story is always the same, a very nice lens or tripod and a closet full of junk.

The biscuit joiner will add to your knowledge and appreciation of the new domino, when the time comes.

And, you did a really nice job on the shelf.

Regards,

Richard

Hi there

Im totally new on this site, and i saw your project as the first one. Really nice job :-)

I have both the TS 55 and the Trion and i love the machines a well. I have the same thoughts as the others regarding the Domino, here in Denmark where i Live the domino is roughly about 1200 $ and thats over double the price as the very good Dewalt Biscuit Joiner... But im saving up for it anyway :-)

I think your shelf is very nice and i would like to hear where you got the very nice wodden hammer you have in your shop.

Sincerely

Jan Simon

Hi Rick

Well I went on the site an bought the Hammer :-) Thanx for the link.

Since i dont own the Domino yet (This will change... I have to join stuff together) I cant exactly say that its better than a biscuit joiner. But i think its more versatile and it looks like its a lot more flexible.

I look forward to post a project on the site in the future, there sure is a lot of inspiration to be gained in here.

Sincerely

Jan Simon
