Should I buy an UDD?

I recently purchased a CT26 along with a TS55 track saw. I've been reading reviews about the new 2014 Ultimate Dust Deputy with all black anti-static components. I'm trying to decide if it's worth purchasing. I've seen a few reviews that say the UDD fried their dust extractor. It also seems like the new model has solved this problem.

I am looking for advice from experienced Festool owners.

Thanks!

I have an older UDD that has been upgraded with the black anti-static kit from Oneida. I works great, I have never had to replace a bag or filter in about 4 years. I never had static issues before they updated the UDD, but perhaps I was just lucky.

Just my  [2cents], but I think the CT is vastly improved with the UDD.

The short of it is I bought the UDD primarily because one of my vacuums has the boom arm fitted, which made it a real hassle to get the motor housing off and back on when changing a bag. This is now a lot easier.

I've had no issues with static electricity so far.

Although suction is diminished a bit due to the Dust Deputy, it stays constant because the bag inside the vacuum doesn't fill up (eventually the pores in the bag will clog and cause suction to diminish, but it's going to take a very long time and/or a lot of vacuuming before that happens)
I've found the suction of a CT vac tends to drop off once your bag starts filling up. This is also less of a problem with the Dust Deputy.

The only problem I have with the Dust Deputy is that it makes any vacuum a big unwieldy contraption.

I can recommend the Dust Deputy to anyone who has a boom arm fitted to his setup. The boom arm negates any compactness of your vacuum. Adding a Dust Deputy doesn't change that much, but it does make it significantly easier to do bag changes.
If I didn't have a boom arm assembly, I probably wouldn't have bothered with a Dust Deputy though.

Below is a quick video showing how well the seperation works on my setup.

I have mine UDD hooked up to my Bosch Airsweep and have had no problems with static. I did receive the upgrade parts after the problems were noted here on the FOG but have not had to use them.
If you are getting one (UDD), use the plastic bags it makes emptying the UDD easier and less dusty.

@Jonathan - Where did you get the elbow for the 50mm hose?  I need one of those.  [wink]

It came with the Ultimate Dust Deputy package. I'm pretty sure Oneida sells them directly. I saw they offer an anti-static one as well the other day. Maybe that one is an ever better choice.

Ok, thanks.  I've been on the fence about buying an UDD, but I think your video talked me into it.  ;D

Instead of another fixture in my shop, I bought the reusable bag for the CT.  It's expensive, but I use it on my 15" power planer and then just dump out the chips and dust into compost. set it back in and run.  I don't have to buy CT bags anymore either.  It's never overfull and I don't have another.

Seeing the UDD capture 90+% of very fine drywall dust through the planex makes it a no brainer.  You can use cheap garbage bags in the udd, making bag changes take seconds.  If you only cut wood you'll never need to change your ct vac bags practically.  The udd also moves the hose higher off the ground giving you more hose to utilize and less hang ups on tables while cutting, my profile pic shows this very well.  I like thinking that most the dust never reaches the vac, and I have the expensive 36ac so its piece of mind. I've had the original udd with zero issues, so the newer one must be the bees knees. Have you bought it yet!?

Thank you for all the responses. After all the positive comments, I think I'll go for it the UDD.
