Shout out to Precision Dogs

I was recently doing some research on here about the Parallel Guide Extension Set when I came across postings talking about alternate options.  Seeing that many positive things were being said about the Precision Parallel Guides from Precision Dogs, I decided to give it a try.

While I have not had the chance to try out the guides yet, I just wanted to drop a few words about the awesome customer service I have received.  When I placed my order, I had a few questions about which T-Track I could use with the guides.  Not only did Jerry from Precision Dogs quickly sent me an email addressing my concerns, but he even offered to try to locate the brand of T-Track I was using to make sure the guides would work on them before purchasing the guides. 

And I can't say enough about how fast my order was processed and shipped, not to mention how well organised the packaging was.  You can really tell Jerry cares a great deal about the quality of his product.  And great news for Canadian shoppers;  they ship via USPS/Canada Post, meaning the chances of having to pay duty in next to none existent....unlike with items shipped with UPS, who will gladly make sure you pay any and all duties when getting your parcel.

So, just wanted to make sure the word got out that Jerry at Precision Dogs is a real pleasure to deal with and I would encourage all of you to check out  precisiondogs.us.

I will echo the above statement. I have really enjoyed the products (I have dogs and the parallel guides) as well as Jerry's customer service.

I have been emailing him on a side project and enjoy the "partnership" approach he takes. I run my business that way (software development) and really appreciate it...

I have been meaning to write a similar post.  I agree with the two previous posters - Jerry's (Precision Dogs) support communication really is superb.  Every question is answered with care, attentiveness, and detail.  He really values feedback and it's obvious he really cares about his product.

I own a few different brands of MFT dogs and they all work and fit great but the fit of Precision's is a step above them.

I had a few questions about which T-Track I could use with the guides

I assumed that all three aftermarket solutions (Precision Guides, Rip Guides, and Seneca Guides) all required the Incra t-track plus.  Are there others that work?  My Rip Guide set from RMW is great, but I've been disappointed in the Incra tracks I've purchased (both from Woodcraft and online) -- they've all been slightly warped, either vertically cupped or horizontally curved.  I know they are usually installed in a captive dado or groove, where the twist can be neutralized with screws, but in this application they make the guides feel less precise.

My understanding is that yes, you need the Incra t-track plus (need the ruler).  That being said, should you find a t-track with the same size of opening and a ruler, it should work, but I don't know of any such t-track other than the Incra plus.

Do you actually need the ruler? Or is it just a nice feature?

Also I was curious about how you keep the rulers from sliding? I would worry about them getting moved out of position.

The ruler in each Incra track is what allows you to set the cut from the back of the wood.  Without the ruler or if your rulers aren't aligned properly, and there isn't going to be a parallel cut.  It is a matter of seconds to get the things calibrated and re-callibrated.

The question about the rulers sliding, if you ever had an Incra with the rulers in them, movement is the least of the worries.  Maybe I have had good luck with my Incra stuff (I always buy direct from them) but I can barely get the rule to slide when i want it to!  It is in there mate!

I mentioned it in another post... the aftermarket kits listed in this thread all allow you to do longer cuts than the rail "should" allow.

Example, If you try to do a 48" cut with a 55" rail, you won't have enough room at the start and finish when using the Festool parallel guides.  With these aftermarket ones, you can place them anywhere on the rail you want, so if you bring them in 5 inches on each side, you can start the cut with the rail to that side.  Halfway across the board, stop and lift the saw, shift the rail to the end of the cut then finish up with plenty of rail.  It has to be said that if your reference edge isn't straight, this won't work obviously but if it is, you can make long cuts with short rails if you need to.

If the track you bought is truly "warped" I'd contact Incra. I've never had a problem with anything I've bought from Incra. My T-Track Plus that I am using the Rip Stops from Rip Dog Tools work great. I've only had time to use Rip Stops a couple of times but used them for other tasks off the guide rail to make repetitive cuts and dados with the router. I bought my T-Track Plus from Woodcraft (in-store, not online) and don't have a problem. I would think Incra would want to know about your problem.
