This is a box, about 12" x 8" x 5". Its made in Silky Oak (SO) also called Lacewood and Jarrah with a Fijian Kauri base and Macassar Ebony handle.
The 25mm wide Jarrah strips were cut from 19mm deep stock with the TS75 and jointed directly to the Silky Oak using 5mm dominoes. The SO edges were prepared using a Lie Nielson #4 smoother fitted with a high angle frog.
All mitres are Kapex.
The finish is Scandinavian oil, friction sealed using an ETS150 fitted with an extra soft pad and sanding from 400 to 4000g. Preparation for the sealing was done using a Rotex 150 ROS with grits of 100-400.
Final finish was done using UBeaut Traditional wax.
(The lid still needs to be attached.)
The Jarrah strip across the lid was achieved by gluing the strip to one of the SO panels, the dominoing the two panels together. The panels and border strips were then dominoed together and the mitres glued up. No glue was used to hold the dominoes in.
The handle was made but cutting a 5 x 28mm Domino mortise and inserting a 5mm slice of ebony. The edges were rounded using an DTS400 and 320g.

Regards,

Rob
