Small Table

Here is a small butcher block table I finished a couple of weeks ago to go with the two chairs on the front porch.  The wood is red oak, walnut, and maple. The legs are mahogany. I had never done a butcher block before so I thought I would give it a try.

vidkid 26  that is cool what an interesting table I really like that thanks for sharing... [thumbs up]  for ya !

Really nice!  I like the heft of the pieces that make up the table and the rounded off look or smoothness to all the edges.

Did you build the chairs too?

Ken,
Yes, I did build the chairs. The first one was the traditional Adirondack and after the wife commandeered it I built her a glider. Both are made of teak and the base of the glider is the same mahogany as the table base

vidkid26,

I love the look of this table.  The hefty look of the legs in relationship to the top make it look like it could last forever.

Great job and nice blend of wood on the table and the chairs.  Any advice on the finish you used?

Thanks for sharing your great looking projects with the rest of us.

I like it... I might think about making one to play chess or checkers outside.

Neill,
I decided to use a couple of coats of tung oil. It make it easy to re-finish in the spring. The chairs and the table are under the front porch. It overhangs enough that it doesn't get to much sun or too much moister when it rains. The chairs have been out all winter and I just needed to put another coat of oil on in the spring. I live in a fairly mild climate in the SF Bay area so temperature extremes are not a problem. I do plan on bringing in the table for the winter though.

Vid,

That is a great looking table. I really liked the proprtions as well as the color scheme from the wood choices. Do you have any pics of the glider adirondack? I have been wanting to get some ideas for something like that for my wife. From the little corner shot I saw of it I thought it looked pretty cool. Thanks, and again Great Looking Table!
