We are a couple hundred feet off the bay and the females apparently come inland to lay their eggs. In the fall I have seen them in the street, stopped to assist and had to chase her down the street. These turtles are faster than hares!  [jawdrop]

Anyway, this little guy got locked up until sundown (after seagull feeding time)&  then escorted to an area of the bay without bulkhead and pointed toward Europe. Cute little guy.

So - what is the coolest thing that has wandered into your work area?

I had a green mojave rattler last summer.  Sorry, no time for pictures.

Very cool!  Do you happen to know how large they get & how long they live?

Ron,

I think this is a Terrapin, not sure about how long they live but the females I have seen laying eggs are under a foot long. The northern 1/2 of the island is a wildlife refuge, we get a lot of migratory seabirds and also have a large population of fox that live in the dunes and marshes.

It's a zoo around here...  [eek]
