I have a Freud FT2000e that died this past weekend. I thought it just needed brushes, so I went to a local shop and got a new pair (no longer available from Freud–actually NO parts are available for this unit). I put them in and fired it up. Sparks were flying from the brush area. I figured there was a piece of trash left in there that I missed. There was trash all right–two pieces of the commutator had broken loose. Replace router time.
Everything except the armature in this router is fine. A common problem with these units is the speed controller fails. This one is fine. Buy this unit to fix what ever is wrong with yours (except the armature!)
By the way… the brushes are new!
