Solid surface sanding question

I'm about to refinish a fairly large set of Corian countertops. I have read threads on here including Sparktician's (Go Willy!) pdf file with advice from Steve Bace. My question is this: I have Granat 120, 150, 180, and Crystal at 240 and 320. Is Crystal acceptable or should I get Granat for this. This is a matte or Satin finish, not higher.

Hey, Ron,
    Try it on some scrap material and see how it works.  Platin is Da Bomb for going past 320 (500 - 4000).  The MPA 5000 and MPA 8000 rubbing and polishing compounds on hard and soft felt pads will bring out a near-mirror polish.

If your refinishing the tops, depending on how badly scratched they are I use 120 / 240 / 400 / grey scoth-brite. Don't press to hard, let the machine do the work! Always use a decent polish afterwards to seal the surface.

What colour are the Corian worktops?

Are you sure you have Cristal at 240 and 320? I can't find any above 120 on Festool's website. I don't remember seeing it over 120, and considering Cristal was developed for fast material removal, with lower grits, I don't think such high grits could be useful.

Since Cristal was made for fast material removal, it is a lot sharper and "scratchier" than comparable grits from other sandpaper lines like Granat, Brilliant or Titan. I never use Cristal for the finishing phase, always one of the other three papers I mentioned.

Thanks, Alex, great catch. My mistake - I have Brilliant 2 in those grits. More thoughts anyone?
