Since Festool has discontinued the MFS system in North America, I would like an explanation of how Festool intends on meeting its "Service All-Inclusive" 10 Year Parts Availability commitment to those of us who have the MFS.  Of particular interest to me are replacement rails, screws, clamps, etc.

Thank you,
Steve

Hopefully things will be available, but since this is not a tool, technically, we shall see.

Great question...I contacted Festool today about returning some connectors for the MFS rails and was informed that they do not accept returns on spare parts.  [eek]

So, I now have tons of back-up for a discontinued product.

Good, I think I lost one or two. Do you mean those tiny little connectors and screws? Toss a couple in your pocket.  [big grin]

That's funny Rick...I'll bring a couple with me when I pick up the Maxsys stuff.

Well, I figured that as long as I was going to frisk you on the way out of my shop, I'd probably find 'em.  [big grin]

Although the MFS has been discontinued in North America, spare parts will remain available. It has not been discontinued globally, we don't anticipate that availability of parts will be an issue.

That's great news [member=37411]Edward A Reno III[/member], because Festool charges $21.97 for these 3 pieces...plus shipping.  [eek]

Have you found another source for the threaded insert that's shown in the photo Cheese posted?

Thanks, Mike A.

[member=30413]mike_aa[/member] No. All I needed to complete the set I got off eBay were the t nuts, so that's all I bothered looking for.

Old thread but seemed like the best place to post this.

Found this YT video when looking for Peter's video on using the MFS. In the video
the person describes a problem with the socket head screws rounding out due to
the way the driver must be used at an angle to tighten or loosen the screw.

His solution was to use a Torx screw which he had to reduce the OD of the head to
fit in the rail by a fraction and he then used a ball head Torx driver which he claims
has solved the problem for him.

I am curious has anyone else with the MFS run into this problem or is it maybe a case
where the screws are being over-torqued.

There are a combination of things happening here:
1. MFS screws are used a lot. Any screw tightened and loosened as much as these screws will eventually become damaged and will need to be replaced.
2. The MFS comes with a ball end hex driver. I keep the driver as close to the rail as I can to initially loosen or to finally tighten the screws. Once the screws are loosened, you can swing the driver out to the side to remove the screw if needed. Reverse this procedure for tightening the screws.
3. These screws only need to be snug, they don’t need to be torqued down. With all 4 screws snugged down the template will not change size.
