Hi all
I'm looking for opinions on a stand for my kapex , I run a dewalt 12 inch mitre saw with the dewalt stand at the moment . I've been looking at the ug cart and also the smaller dewalt stand as well . What's the best option to go with ?we mostly fit and install furniture including kitchens wardrobes etc . I've heard the ug cart isnt that firm on the ground as it's quite uneven and the side wings are quiete wobbly ?a wheeled option would be best and most fastest for site work but I'm undecided ?
All opinions greatly appreciated.

Honestly I have read that the majority of people who have posted here about the UG stand have been happy enough.  I personally don't have one.

I have the ug cart and wings and think they are great. Really easy to move around and quick to set up. The wings are not rock solid because they are designed to be lightweight and portable but I have never had a problem with them. Could not imagine a better set up to go with the kapex.

The advantages of the UG Cart and extensions are it's easy portability, integrated stops on the extensions, and ability to extend out 8 ft on either side of the blade.

Because it is so lightweight, though, the stand does shake a bit when you cut, but I haven't found that it affects the accuracy, as the motion is translated to the saw. As long as your ground is reasonable, you can set it up so that it is relatively stable.

The big downside is the narrowness of the extensions. Once you start cutting boards over 8 in., you may find issues with getting them fully supported, especially if there is any bowing in the wood. You can control this somewhat with the hold down clamp on the kapex, but it's not fool proof. I try to avoid doing bevel or miter cuts on wide boards on the cart, since the lack of extension support can cause the board to shift during the cut.

The UG stand also places the deck of the Kapex at the same height as the top of an MFT/3, which can be used t support long stock.  The UG wings will also attach to the MFT/3 allowing for many combinations to suit wider stock.

I use both the regular and small Dewalt stands with home made wood extensions(4' and 8'). These stands aren't perfect but they are light, compact, and reasonably sturdy when set up. The UG stand is wobbly, too short, too narrow, takes up too much room, and too expensive. As a builder I'm constantly moving and setting up mitersaw stands during the course of my work. Most of the time I'm going up stairs, thru narrow halls and staircases and the UG cart wouldn't make transport any easier.  Save your money get the smaller Dewalt stand build the wings or get the FastCap wings for the Dewalt stand.
Cheers

Hello GOL,
While doing some unrelated research on FOG yesterday, I came across references to Fast Cap's Best Fence System. I took a look at their product(s) and was surprised at the extent of engineering that went into the design. It appears to have the flexibility to accommodate many different miter saws. Here is a link to their site:http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=47007
But the video on you tube I stumbled on seemed informative.

Best of luck in your search!

I've had the full kapex UG set about 2 years now think it's great. Yes its not rock solid but its light , quick to set up and has the most accurate length stops going.

At the end of the day if your throwing great big timbers on it then its gonna shake or wobble but for cutting standard stuff like mouldings, skirting, stud work etc it's fine.

I've had my FastCap for almost three years now and I really appreciate how stable it is, how it supports material, and it has some nice components that are included with it, like the stops. Some of the parts are a little cheap on it though but when you look at the engineering of it, you can understand their design challenges. Ocouple things: good height for a miter saw, tough to haul sometimes even in my ford e250, because of everything else I carry. But its so helpful making accurate cuts, its a real saw station.

I have kapex with ug cart and wings. Previous to that I had a dewalt 10" on the dewalt stand.
The ug setup is not as sturdy as the dewalt but the stops are accurate. If I'm on a bigger job I make a little bench to fix the wings on. It's much better especially for bigger sections like 6x2 and up.

I bought kapex last year and debated on the ug stand but thought it was to pricey and didn't like anything on the market so I built the Paulk miter station and love it

I love the UG-stand.

Very nice stand its light very portable.

Yes it does take a little longer to setup than a dewalt stand HOWEVER!!!!  the Ug stand is lighter and more compact in the van.
It is also ALOT better on smaller work ie kitchens and furniture.    Its ideal!

It is also the best stand available for doing repetitive cuts because the stops are solid and the arm extensions act like a mini out feed table so you can cut push cut push cut push cut push and then grab and go.  Unlike other stands their is a big gap between chop saw bed and stand support so for small cuts they just fall off.

Also I find the stops on other stands not that good for repeated repetitive cuts.

Ug good: one trip, wings for repetitive cuts, compact if upright in van

Ug bad : wobbly, too low, cannot cut on it(by hand or jig saw), extensions too narrow. Expensive

Ug good and bad wheels are good to roll around but a pain for tight spots, muck, and stairs.

Dewalt smaller stand. Good : stout, easy set up as saw can be quickly removed and used elsewhere, easily modified and added onto

Bad multi trip set up, must make or buy continuous wings. More space in van, but I got a pickup so I prefer the way it breaks down.

To each his own. I have seen novices with million dollar stands and old pros work off a plank.

That is what I love about the Paulk stand it's a work bench also clamp anything anywhere cope on it jigsaw on it I have built in crown stop the track with also works awesome for clamping I am going to incorporate the kreg fence system into it yet possibly incra and I have 6' wings for each side plus material supports on saw horses to store material right at the saw stand and is surprisinglying light weight but probably doesn't store as good as ug stand

First time posting guys. My name is Pete and I'm a Festoolaholic. [cool]

I have the UG Cart. I was having a little buyers remorse right after buying it and loading it into the truck, but once I attached my saw to it and start using it, that feeling quickly went away. I loved using my Kapex when I had it on the MFT but with this it's a whole new world. The only wish I had was that the wing could attach with the crown stop in place but it's not too big of a deal.

I have the Bosch GTA250W with my Makita LS1016..  can't fault it, great wheeled stand if a bit big!

Get yourself a pair of these and you can make your own crown stops with the wings attached

Hi, my two penneth worth or two cents worth for our American cousins  [big grin]. I have the Kapex and used it on a Dewalt stand which worked great. But being a Festool addict and liking everything regimental had to look into the UG stand and wings. Although expensive, took advice from one of the regular contributors on here from the UK (you know who you are lol) , and bought one. Best thing I have done for a while.
Easy to wheel around, and surprisingly enough I found it easier to lift whilst on the stand.

Hope that helps.

Mark.

I just sold my Kapex and stands after owning it for 9 months.  I too had major buyers remorse, once I started reading about numerous motor failures on the Kapex.  It will cost about $800 - $900 to fix a motor problem if the unit is out of warranty.
Way too expensive for me
