Who's seen it?

I was thinking of booking the big comfortable seats front and centre at the theatre, with the catered bubbly and nibbles ... but now I'm not so sure [embarassed]

(life go it they way .. I hate not seeing the big ones near the release day)

So ... I accidentally read some reviews [crying]

Have people enjoyed it like they were 40 years younger?

No spoilers please ..

I'll let you know tomorrow afternoon, have tickets for the 3PM show. I've been able to avoid all spoilers so far but the response so far from friends is that this is the Star Wars movie we should have gotten back in '99...

I'll go see it when the crowds die. Prolly in the big comfy seats with beer and nibbles at hand. I'm not a child anymore so I doubt it's going to have the same impact but it's bound to be a visual marvel.  Seeing as that's my job, set construction,  it's a must see and no less than the big screen. On a separate film note, I recently saw an original edit of King Kong on the big screen down at the TIFF building, now that was brilliant.

I saw it on Friday afternoon with my two young sons aged 7 and 9. It was their last day of school so I thought it would be a nice treat for them. I liked it and they loved it. The plot was straightforward enough for them to enjoy, there are sufficient nostalgic references to the earlier films for older fans to enjoy, and overall it was good. It wasn't overburdened with ridiculous characters and excessive CGI like the last three films and had some of the tongue-in-cheek feeling of the first few films. I knew nothing about it before watching it.

I'm not a crazy fan like some out there, but would recommend seeing it.

I saw it opening day.  The original was the first movie that i ever saw and I've been a huge fan (of the original 3) so I had high hopes.  It met all my hopes, it's really, really good.

Is nowhere safe from this movie? [eek]

Disney is king of pervasive marketing. They plant their stuff everywhere, from the food you eat to the toys you buy for your kids, to the planes you fly on. There's no way to avoid it except become a hermit; it's become part of American (and other first world) culture.

I took my 10 year old to the show yesterday, and I'd say my take on it was just about exactly like the comment from [member=7882]RL[/member] .  It's visually great, it's a solid bridge between the original movies and what Disney is going to serve up in the future.  My kid thought it was fun, but it comes in second place for the year because Mad Max blew the doors off of everything else.

Didn't really feel the force. Nice that they did it/shot it retro so it is more in line with the original movies. But the story could have been told better. Parts missing.... Like flashback into the bad guy upbringing, more background about the First Order vs Republic and whose the heck is the uber bad guy...? Still haven't figured that one out....

Took the whole family to see it last night.  It was good, but yet also left me slightly disappointed.  On the plus side, I would say it paid homage to the original 3 quite well, lots of references for us older fans, my kids really liked it.  I was really looking forward to see them continue/evolve the story, but (in my opinion) it almost followed the original trilogoy too well, seemed like the plot lines were almost too similar, I kinda felt like I was seeing a remake of the original trilogy rather than a new story.  Still would recommend seeing it, though.

A derivative formulaic nostalgia fest.  If you are going to see it, I recommend 4K over 3-D as the latter is a little too dark.
