Starrett #92 Dividers/compass

I've used the 85d9's for years.  I was an Iron Worker for 33 years and the last 15 I was a layout  person.  I used these every day for years and they will last a life time.  the only time I had to purchase another pair was when someone decided they needed them more than I.  I lost 3 sets that way.  As with any Starrett item they're well made.  I missed the cost of them, what are they going for these days?

I bought a complete set way back when I was an apprentice toolmaker (very useful), when I started in engineering (back in the drawing board days before CAD) I used the set daily.  In the mid 80's when everybody went to CAD & the hand drafting went away I brought my set home to use in the home workshop.  I'm not aware of any other sets that are even close to the quality.

I got my set for $115 canadian. Before someone says "WHOA!" this is a real compass, if you need accuracy you need this, everything else is a toy

Grainger has the 9" for 130.00  [smile]
And as said earlier these are a true pair of dividers USA built and great to use

Expensive but you get what you pay for. Micro adjustment and firm locking mechanisms give this set 0 deflection once locked down on your mark. Was going to pick up the lee valley set but it's way more finicky than this beauty. Check it out

Great find.
I have the Lee Valley ones and they are an improvement from the school set I was using, they have a good heft but they really don't stay locked in position and you can't get any closer than say 1cm because the pencil point stops. It would also be good to have a point to measure with.
The Starrett design with the locking mechanism, micro adjustment and pencil/point on the inside makes this much better design to use for accuracy.
Thanks.
Did you get yours from Atlas?
Tim
