Each year the graduating senior class at our school buys the school a gift and presents it to the pricipal usually a week or two before graduation. The gift this year was a 400lb. cast bronze statue of a tiger (our mascot). I was asked if I'd build a base for it and I gladly took on the job pro bono. While the base isn't exactly over the top it is much more than they were expecting. It was incredibly gratifying to see the reactions of a lot of the seniors that I had taught in years past as they got a first look at their gift up on the base. The interior of the base is reinforced with 2x4's and the whole thing is anchored to the floor. I think I set a record, for me at least, for getting this done. I really wanted it in place by the day of the graduation ceremony. That only gave me about three days to get the whole thing done. A whole lotta patience from my wife allowed that to happen.
