I live in an old farm house, built around 1893.
Most of the house is in a state of repair, restoration or just complete mess.  That stems from being a carpenter I guess.

I finally got around to pulling the carpet off the steps going upstairs.
17 steps in total and the bottom 4 were the worst abomination of cobbled together mess I had ever seen in my life.
They were dangerous, of course I dealt with it for a few months, I won't mention the water leak I finally got fixed after 4 months of catching it with a bucket.

The bottom 4 steps have no stringers, all wedged in and notched around the skirt boards.
I finally got some Ash (hard to find anymore around here) and a bit of ambition, set my tools up in the kitchen and got to work.

I did some more tuning and distressing after these pictures.  Now I just have to clean up the other 13 steps and get them stained and a few coats of finish on them.

I always forget the before's.
They were some 1xs slapped in with a few screws
and some 2x4s nIled to each other.
I have been dragging stuff on them to speed up
the aging process.
Thanks!!
