Im sure this has been covered, but I could not find anything. Does anyone clean their surfix pads and/or foam? What about cleaning the applicator? what will remove the build up on this?

I have always hated wasting a set of pads to just finish a smaller project. Any suggestions besides order new ones?

Thank you, Frank

I haven't used the Suffix system yet.  There was a post in this thread yesterday that might help:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-how-to/surfix-questions/msg384362/#msg384362

Thanks for looking out Peter, Good info there, but not much info on cleaning/re-using the pads.

I have not been able to clean the pads or foam. I have "sanded" the pads to get to a cleaner surface.

I have used the Surfix system on 6 projects now. I too have tried to clean the pads for re-use. Short of soaking them in a lacquer thinner, (that would be a huge cost, exceeding the cost of the pad. So I simply start projects with a new pad and it usually lasts the two coats and sometimes a third coat. I have been successful cleaning the applicator with a good quality lacquer thinner.

That's about as good as it gets. I view it it as a 1 finishing process =1 vlies pad process. Same thing for the applicator pad.
