Is there any reason not to put a third coat of interior heavy oil on a walnut island countertop? I had to make a repair after i already finished it and i touched up the spot but my client would like another full coat put on.

Also how often should the top be redone if it starts to look dry?

Thanks

I don't see a problem. Many people put multiple coats of oil on a project instead of just one or two.

I did not think there would be a problem just wanted to see if someone had more experience with it than i do.

If anyone else has an opinion i would like to hear it. I am not going to work on it for at least a week.

Sorry, I should have added that I also own a Surfix kit from Festool and have used more than the two coats spec'ed in their instructions without a problem.  [cool]
As for the top needing rework if it 'looks' dry, to me, that's a subjective thing. Sounds like something you and  the client will figure out as needed. Take some before and after pictures of the work, so you have a guide in the future of how the piece really looked when it was first done, and not a slightly foggy memory that could be mistaken. [embarassed]

Thanks for the added info. I already told her that it would be up to her to decide when to recoat, i picked up a Surfix kit for her to use, she likes to finish things. It is about two weeks to late for the before picture but i do have pictures the day after i did the finish.
