I'm pretty new to festool. So I may just not know how to find what I need. Apologies if that's the case.

Regarding the SYS 1 box 497694, which comes with a variety of colored buckets that fit inside.

The odds that that particular arrangement of buckets will be what a user needs is extremely slim. I assume that Festool, being the king of engineering and the price leader, would allow customers to buy the bins they need to fill their boxes. I can't find that though, the only ways I can see to get 1 box the way I want them are to buy 5 and take the buckets I want from all 5 to make one useful systainer, or, build my own boxes out of something.

What am I missing?

[welcome]

Just buy a systainer 1 and buy the inserts you want/ need from either a local or online  shop that sells the inserts.  [wink]

I think you probably got it correct. In the 'States, Festool sells them as packs of varying quantity, depending on the size. They call them, "plastic compartments". The 5 colored ones are for the SYS 1 Box TL and the new drill Systainers. The gray ones are for the SYS-Storage.

Thanks everyone. I managed to find the ones on Amazon, but it ain't easy. I have the festool paper catalog right next to me and can't find any mention there, and I tried to go to the parts site as well. Looks like we're all set now though.

I don't have them to compare directly, but looking at the specs on Amazon for the Festool boxes vs the Allit on the Lee Valley site, the dimensions are off by a few mm's.  Festool is listed at having a 49mm or 98mm dimension and the Allit boxes use 51mm or 105mm.
