SYS MFT -- why are corner holes recessed?

Greetings --

Santa brought me  SYS MFT...  Which I think is pretty cool.

One fear urge has me kind of confused...  Why did they recess the surface around the corner holes? 

Festool usually does things for a reason, but I can't figure out why they recess the corners...

so you can stack T Loc systainers on top and lock them in.
