Hi newbie question, I’ve just purchased a VAC SYS SE but not the foot pedal & thought I’d be able to just use it with the in line valve supplied with it, the clamping works on both the base to a surface & the supplied suction plate, but as soon as I put a piece of wood on the suction plate the gauge on the pump jumps into the red & wont move back to green unless I take the wood of the suction plate, any ideas much appreciated.

You could order the spare parts and make your own pedal here. or you can call festool and ask them if you can purchase an assembled pedal. The pedal is a requirement for the system to work, as it completes the negative pressure system. I suppose, you could figure out a way to install a ball joint relief valve at the end of where the foot pedal and hose would be - however that is a little beyond my scope of experience - just an idea.

Sometimes if you are attached the base unit to MDF and try to clamp anther piece of MDF on top then the pump is unable to maintain a vacuum.  MDF leaks air and depending on the density it can be a significant amount.  Uneven surfaces or cuts/holes in the wood can also causes issues

Thanks for your speedy replies much appreciated, I’ve managed to order a foot pedal, just got a bit worried as I thought the unit may be faulty, I’m in the uk & I don’t think there’s a lot of SYS VAC equipment left, thanks guys.
