Syslite dimming and turning off after about 10 mins

Question for those with the syslite.  How long will your light stay on if fully charged?  Charger indicated that it was fully charged, but it seem like every 10 minutes it would dim and then shut off.

I'll let you know in ten minutes...  [wink]

In the meantime, is it getting too hot or cold? From the manual...

6.4 Temperature monitoring
If the temperature of the light exceeds the maximum or minimum permitted operating temperature, the working light switches to emergency power mode with reduced luminosity and then switches off after 30 seconds.

Mine "dimmed" after about 13 minutes and then shut off 30 seconds later. Interesting. Doesn't say anything about it in the manual. [huh]

Don't know if I'm mis-understanding what you've posted??

My Syslite booklet (page 14)  says:
'Charging state indicator green - permanently lit
Integral battery is charged to 80% and then charged fully with a reduced current.'

On page 12 states that charging time for 80% is 100 minutes,
and for 100% 180 minutes.

So the thing doesn't tell you when it's fully charged - you have to time it.
Something that irritates the heck out of me; I think ever other device
I have tells me when fully charged - however it goes about doing it.

On a side note - even if charged to 80% 10 minutes or so doesn't sound very long.
Never used it from 80%, so have no idea how long mine lasts from that point.

Will try next time I charge it.  As both of you have had similar results, assume for
now that accurate - just don't get it.  I just want to know when fully charged.
Surely it wouldn't have killed them to have had another 'led' to inform when the complete
charging process is finished.

Otherwise, really love it; although have got a little plug thingy to put into charging port -
got this thing about it getting 'gritty' inside, and perhaps one day compromising its
performance.

Richard.

You can switch it on again, it just seems there is an "auto-off" after about 13 minutes or so when running from battery.

Garrymartin,

I didn't take a timer, but it seems are results are close.  I do like the light a lot, but for the specific task I was doing it was kind of irritating that it would shut off.

Fuzzy,
I agree that not indicating when fully charged is frustrating, next time I will just leave longer on the charger.

Wonder if Festool made it so deliberately.

Maybe it's saying 'hey - I want you to fully charge me please.'
I believe that not good idea to keep re-charging li-ion batteries
to less than full capacity - not because of 'memory' effect that
NiCad batt's supposedly were prone to - but more to ensure
that some sort of internal 'monitor' is charging battery to fullest
extent.

Richard.

(edit:  similarly, I believe, that's why it's good idea to let battery
completely run down very occasionally - the internal 'monitor' will
re-calibrate itself.  Don't know if applies to Syslite though.)

Mine runs on full bright about 1.5 hours without dimming or shutting off. After that time it dims for about 20 minutes then shuts off.

I charge mine in my truck.

Tom

Mines the same as Toms. About 100mins with about 10-20mins low power before it shuts down. After this it won't charge straight away and flashes with a red light until it cools down about 2 mins later and charges again.

The only complaint I have about the Syslite is, I don't have 2. [crying]

Tom

The dimming then off after aprox ten minutes thing ..... mine only does that when the battery is low, too low to really use. After I charge it  all is fine again.  So perhaps there is a battery or Sensor (?) problem. I would give Festool a call.

Seth

The first question I would ask is did it ever work properly? If not, there may be a problem with the set up.

Mine and those that I've sold and monitored last about 50 minutes if unplugged when the light is first full green. If left for 2-3 hours on the charger, they last about 1-1/2 hours on bright, then dim and eventually, shut off.

I've charged mine up and used it until it stopped many times.

Word to the wise (that does not include me)----do not leave it in an attic 70 miles away from your home/office.  [censored]

not very smart at times;
Tom

To confirm what others have reported, I tested and posted battery life from various voltage and types of batteries at one point. I was leaving the SysLite on for 4+ hours with the external battery at times without it turning itself off. If charged, it should stay on.

It does auto-dim when the battery is very low.

I will charge for 3 or 4 hours and then do another test, if no difference, I may call festool service.  The only problem is I didn't buy it, I won it at the Festool Connect event.  Shane I just noticed your post, if it needed service, would there be any issue?

The "prize" model only runs for 10 minutes at a time.  [laughing]

Charge it over night. I also find it charges better in my truck than from line voltage.

Even tools we give away as prizes are covered by warranty.  [wink]

Not a problem at all. If I can assist in any way, just let me know. Glad to help.

Guys, if you're within the 30 day window and it's convenient to do so, please swap for a new unit with your dealer. It's possible that it's faulty.

If it's not convenient, please contact the service department at the number below and we'll get it in for repair. We pay shipping to and from the service center during the first year.

Sorry for the problems.

Shane
