Systainers on a plane?

I am traveling for work and while I was out here in Indy I bought 13 classic systainers and 3 tLocs

Now I am trying to figure out the best way to get them home, obviously I am going to have to ship some but I get 2 free checked bags with southwest airlines.  How well do these do being checked?  should I latch a certain amount together and shrink wrap them?

Any advice would be welcome.

You should go to SW website and look at the maximum allowable dimensions of baggage. You can then lock as many systainers as will fit those dimensions to make a single bag. You won't have to worry about the 50lb weight limit if they are empty!

Thats genius and I am embarrassed I didn't think about it...

Maximum weight is 50 pounds and maximum size is 62 inches (length + width + height) per checked piece of luggage.

Looks like a systainer is roughly 16x12 in length and width so I can stack up to 34 high.

going to go measure and see who comes home with me!

I'd find a cardboard box (uhaul or some other moving co) to put them in with extra padding. I've seen what passes for baggage "handling" not pretty, you think UPS is bad.

Also this means you could probably ship more since you won't have to lock them.

16 + 12 = 28 (length + width)

That means you have 36" of height left. A SYS2 is about 6.5" high.

Here is a picture from last night when I was washing them all and a picture of one of the stacks I will check, the other stack is identical.  I only have to ship 3 sys4s.  I did it that way because 3      sys4s are tall but weigh hardly anything compared to 4 sys1s even though they are close to the same height.

Here is an update on the trip.

All systainers made it except one tloc that was crushed on the hinge and won't open.  Spoke with southwest and after much heated conversation they wrote a check to replace it.  Other than that no major issues traveling with them.
