I just got a new table saw, and now need to make new sleds.  I'm investigating options for tracks to go on the fences for stop blocks. I'm also looking to standardize my shop to one design, including miter saw and drill press fences. I'd almost decided to go with Kreg, with the top track, stops, and micro adjust capabilities. Then I saw AskWoodmans recent series on using 8020 extrusions for his miter fence. A quick check shows 48" of 1010 is cheaper than most simple t track I can find (Rockler, woodcraft, peachtree).

My question is if I am missing something here. Can I use 1010 as a fence? Any downsides compared to a piece of MDF with a Kreg top track  other than the lack of tape measure?

I used 8020 1030 1" X 3" as fences for my cutoff jig and also for my chop-saw.  Kregs flip-stops work great in the 8020.  Also the Festool clamps work perfectly in the 15 series.
