T12 and T15

Can someone enlighten me as to why Festool makes two drills that are basically identical?  I bought the T15 when it first came out in the US, a great drill, I loved it, but that big battery sticking out always got in the way installing cabinets. I also have a C12 and it is a great drill also.

I see the new C12 comes with compact batteries. It seams to me the T12 should be offered with the same compact batteries to make it different than the T15.

My question is : is there plans to offer the T12 with the compact batteries? and is the new C12 ever going to make it to the US? ;D  Thanks

Jay,

The difference is in  maximum torque between the drills; some want the higher torque of the 15v, while some prefer the lighter weight (and priceA) of the 12v. All batteries ae interchangable between those drills.
Not sure about your other questionsm other than to say that the new C drills should be here in the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2011.

The Lithium Ion version of the "C" Drills are scheduled to be available in North America around mid-2011. I'm not sure if we will be offering the 1.3Ah batteries, which you are referring to as compact, for purchase separately or not. I do not know of any intentions to change the standard battery that comes with the T12. The 1.3Ah would offer less battery life, of course. As Bob mentioned, the batteries would be interchangeable.

Thanks Bob and Shane. Being a cabinetmaker/installer, battery life is less important to me. The largest hole I drill is 3/16" for the knobs and pulls. All the driving is done with impact drivers.

Shane. do you know if the the Li C12 will be coming to the US with the 1.3 ah ( compact) batteries? If so, why would you not offer them for sell seperatly?  I could buy the T12 now and share the smaller bateries with the C12 when it comes out.

Thanks again.

Like I said...

There's a strong possibility that they will be. But, being that the launch of the new C-drills is still 6-8 months out, I don't have any specific information to share.

You would definitely be able to share batteries between a T12 and C12 however.
